The Silva Lining for Everton’s Striker Crisis.

It was a difficult first season for Marco Silva at Goodison Park. An 8th placed finish and two wins in their final five games capped a season filled with frustration and inconsistency.

Everton flourished with Lukaku as their frontman and Goodison Park was a Velodrome of excitement and penetrative football but since his departure they have failed to replace his goals and signed an underwhelming replacement in Tosun. 27.5 million was a blunder not even Ed Woodward could of mustered and ended up being a waste of capital for the Everton hierarchy.

So, who should the Toffees look to sign to strengthen their attacking options this summer window.

I’ve taken a look at 5 forward options fit to excite the Goodison Park choir.

Michy Batshuayi

How well do former Chelsea strikers do when moving to Goodison Park? Very well.

Batshuayi spent the second half of last season on loan at Crystal Palace and scored 5 goals in 11 appearances. Michy is 25 years old and hasn’t burst into life at the speed we thought he would and he’s yet to prove himself at the highest level but if he’s hungry to succeed he should burst into life and become the clinical striker we know he can be. His quickness and pace would really help Everton stretch the opposition defences and his hold up play would allow Everton’s more technically gifted players to come into play and start attacks.

The Belgium international, joined the London club for £33 million three years ago. Everton paid £28 million for Lukaku and could very much pay something similar if they were to try and sign Batshuayi.

Sébastien Haller

With a 7.60 rating from WhoScored.com and a player that seems destined to exit Frankfurt along with Ante Rebic and already departed Luka Jovic, Haller might be the perfect fit.

Haller was a key component in Frankfurt’s success last season chipping in with 20 goals and 12 assists in 41 appearances for the German outfit, Haller would be a great addition to Everton’s squad if they were to sign him and would represent a different attacking option for the Merseyside club. At 6ft 2in the frontman would add goals, a set piece threat and dangerous through balls to Everton’s team. 92 goals and 39 assists in 232 appearances for FC Utrecht, Auxerre and Frankfurt combined.

An excessive fee won’t be paid for Haller but with the striker set to leave and even posting on his Instagram story his goodbyes to the Frankfurt faithful he could be well on Silva’s shortlist for attacking options this window.

Salomón Rondón

The Venezuelan’s future is up in the air at Newcastle and a move away from the North East club looks likely.

Rondon is no stranger to the Premier League having played in it the last four seasons, three of them at West Bromwich Albion and the most recent stint at Newcastle United.

40 goals in 153 appearances won’t be the stats Everton fans will go weak at the knees for but Rondon is the cheapest striking option for them this window and would only cost around £18 million. If the Everton board don’t trust Marco Silva with high cash amounts then Rondon might be the best striking option they can pursue and the 29 year old forward seems destined to leave Newcastle this summer.

It might be worth putting in a bid Mr Moshiri.

Timo Werner

A star studded prospect and linked with a transfer to Bayern and Liverpool recently, Werner would command a massive fee but it shouldn’t concern a club who spent £45 million on Gylfi Sigurðsson. 63 goals and 34 assists in 188 appearances and with the potential to become better Werner would be an exciting signing for Everton. Timo excels in finishing, passing and holding the ball up for his teammates and would be a key coup.

Summer 2020 is coming close for Timo Werner and RB Leipzig.

The German international has one year remaining on his current contract and has hinted he wishes to not sign a new one leaving Leipzig with no option other than to cash in on this new German Vanderbilt, don’t ask about that reference you won’t receive an explanation.

Diego Costa

No you aren’t under the influence, you read that correctly.

A proven Premier League goal scorer, injury prone, aggressive style of play, play acting and a high conversion rate for Chelsea, Costa has it all. Costa struck fear into his footballing opponents while playing for the London club.

52 goals and 16 assists in 89 Premier League appearances for Chelsea, Costa was a key component in Chelsea’s silverware success, A clinical player and a fox in the box Costa can score with his right or left foot. His aggressive style of play would suit Everton as they haven’t seen the likes of it since Duncan Ferguson. Injury prone and with 2 goals in 16 La Liga appearances Atletico might want to cash in on the 30 year old. Costa would be a massive risk for Everton but one that I think will pay dividends.

It’s a pity Gareth Barry isn’t still at Everton because now Costa would have to look elsewhere for a nourishing snack…
